Thrift and Thistle is becoming something new...

Since 2012, Matt Hull has been running Thrift and Thistle for fonts and Digital Creative Products, and Sprout Studio for custom branding and design for businesses.
Thrift and Thistle was set up as a site to showcase my passion in creating hand lettered fonts, and has become a business of it's own, separate to my design work for clients.
As a passion, this has led to over 50 fonts being created, and led onto custom font work for major brands, books, and used in Film and TV.
I have now decided to re-focus on my passion even further, and I am releasing a new website combining all my skills in September 2018.
The new website will combine all my work, and will coincide with a wide range of new fonts and digital products being released.

Virginia Valli

Consultant

Virginia has an eye for composition, and a heart for colour. Working on an ad-hoc basis, she along with other freelancers are brought in for projects when they are needed. In addition to Virginia, we also work with a network of Developers, Copywriters, Photographers as part of wider and larger projects, and together we can quote on projects of varying sizes. Tintin

Mascot

Tintin is our mascot, and frequently helps in a project by sitting on important artwork, walking across the keyboard and popping up on client Skype calls to remind us all to not be so serious. With 7 years experience as a cat, he has been a frequent collaborator, sitting on or near the work desk on late night deadlines and a constant support when working from home.

How to install fonts on your computer (Mac / PC)

Before installing your new font, you must unzip the file . Next, you can install the font in your system by following these steps:

On a PC: Double click on the OTF or TTF file, then click "Install."

On a Mac:

  • Double click on the OTF or TTF file, then click "Install Font."
  • Alternately, you can manually install fonts to bypass Fontbook: Copy (CMD + C) the file(s) either OTF or TTF format, then Paste (CMD + V) the files into this folder: HD > Library > Fonts

Important: Restart the program where you intend to use the font, and the fonts will show up in your font list when you open the program again.

How to install fonts on iOS (iPhone / iPad)

In general, we recommend using fonts on your Desktop or Laptop computer because fonts cannot be directly installed on a mobile device without the help of a third party app. However, if your device of choice is an iPhone or iPad, one app that will allow you to install fonts on iOS is called Instafont. Please be aware that your mobile device may not fully support all features of OpenType fonts. Finally, as many of our fonts are delivered in .zip files, you may also need a third-party app to unzip files on your mobile device

How to install fonts on a Chromebook

Installing fonts on a Chromebook is possible, although it’s not quite as simple as installing fonts on a computer with Windows or MacOS. This video will walk you through the process for installing your new fonts on a Google Chromebook.

You can learn more about about using and troubleshooting fonts in this helpful article. To learn more about OpenType features, check out this article.

Permission for @font-face integration is available for fonts and covered in the license in detail. However not all fonts are hinted properly for web use. Please refer to the license for more information.
